About Us


Background

  •   College of School Education was established in Solan in 1954

  •   Converted into State Institute of Education (SIE) in 1970

  •   SIE was entrusted the task of preparing programmes and policies from Primary Level to Senior Secondary Level by the State Government

  •   SIE was restructured as SCERT on the pattern of NCERT in 1984

  •   SCERT was converted into society in 1997 with a provision of grants-in-aid by the Government

  •   The grants-in-aid was not released well in time hence the staff remained without salary for months together

  •   In view of the above difficulties State Government reviewed the situation and agreed to meet the salary and other requirements like office expenses, travelling expenses from the budget of Higher Education

  •   Budgetary allocation by the Government is hardly enough to qualify for functional autonomy hence its status and role has been reduced to any other Educational Institution

Objectives

  •   To improve the quality of education in the State by imparting in-service training to teachers , teacher-educators, administrators and other educational personnel

  •   To provide academic leadership within the State and act as the hub of academic research, innovation and motivation by organizing workshops and seminars on various issues

  •   To be a symbol of quality and to provide valuable insights by conducting studies on issues related to quality education in the State

Existing Organisational Structure

  •   Council is headed by a College Cadre Principal

  •   Existing faculty comprises 10 lecturers of College cadre, 6 lecturers of School cadre and 2 TGTs (Arts and Science)

Ongoing Projects and Activities

  •   The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by SCERT Himachal Pradesh to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections and reduce dropout rates at the secondary level. Under the scheme, eligible Class VIII students studying in Government, Government-aided, and local body schools receive scholarships from Classes IX to XII, funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

  •   The H.P. Swaran Jayanti Middle Merit Scholarship Scheme, implemented by SCERT Himachal Pradesh aims to encourage academic excellence and reduce dropout rates among students of Government Primary Schools.Under the scheme, meritorious Class V students are selected through a two-stage examination process and awarded scholarships for Classes VI to VIII on the basis of merit and district-wise allocation.

  •   The Rajya Stariya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani (RSBVP) is a prestigious science exhibition programme organized annually by SCERT Himachal Pradesh .The programme provides a platform for students of Classes IX to XII from government, private, and government-aided schools affiliated to HPBoSE to showcase their scientific creativity, innovation, and project-based learning.

  •   The State Level Science Seminar is organized by SCERT Himachal Pradesh for students of Classes VIII–X from Government and Private schools under the guidance of the National Science Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to promote scientific temper, inquiry-based learning, and scientific communication skills among students.

  •   PARAKH initiatives at SCERT Himachal Pradesh focuses on assessment reforms, competency-based learning, capacity building, and learning gap analysis in collaboration with PARAKH NCERT.

  •   The National Population Education Project (NPEP) is implemented by SCERT to promote awareness on population education, adolescent health, gender sensitivity, and social issues among students and teachers. The programme includes advocacy activities, role play and folk dance competitions, awareness campaigns, and research and evaluation initiatives based on health and wellness themes.

  •   The In-Service and Induction Training Programme implemented by SCERT Himachal Pradesh focuses on the continuous professional development of teachers, school heads, teacher educators, and educational personnel to enhance the quality of school education.

  •   DIKSHA and PM e-VIDYA are flagship digital education initiatives of the Ministry of Education implemented by SCERT Himachal Pradesh to ensure equitable access to quality, curriculum-based learning and teacher professional development. .SCERT supports digitization of textbooks for Classes I–XII and coordinates PM e-VIDYA DTH channels to provide accessible educational content to students across the state.

  •   The Inclusive Education Cell at SCERT Himachal Pradesh promotes equitable and inclusive education by addressing the diverse learning needs of Children with Special Needs (CWSN) and learners from Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs).
